I took this photo of Valentine Creek after doing some of the thickest bush bashing I've ever done. The afternoon colour was spectacular around Valentine Hut and loved the softer light on Valentine Creek. As it got closer to sunset the colour was even more spectacular and was one of those sunsets that you need to look both ways as the colour was turning the snow gums red behind me.

This photo of Lower Araucaria Falls was taken on the same day trip to Goomburra, QLD as my October photo. Before going I was researching about Goomburra and found a photo of this waterfall and wanted to go there. After some more researching I found where it was. The main track takes you to the upper falls and this was only a little bit further down the same creek.

My most recent photo in the calendar from the Larapinta Trail. This is Ormiston Gorge on Day 4. We had a shorter day so was able to do a quick detour up to the gorge. Check out my Larapinta Trail Blog for more stories from the trip.

This photo taken of Pierces Creek while on a solo hike to the Blue Gum Forest in the Blue Mountains. On my way back I stopped several times along the Grose River and Pierces Creek to take photos. The stops also allowed me to rest as well as it was uphill along Pierces Creek to get back to my car.

This is one of the oldest photos in the calendar. I took it while on holiday to Victoria and Tasmania with my family just after finishing school. We did the Three Falls Ciruit in Mt Field National Park which also included the well known Russell Falls and Lady Barron Falls. On the way back the rest of my family went ahead as I kept stopping to take photos. It rained as I was heading back and I was drenched by the time I got back to the visitor centre. The others missed the rain and were nice and dry. Luckily my camera stayed dry.

Taken on the same day as the Januray and December photos in the calendar. I first saw this waterfall and heard about the so called Waterfall Track last year while on the expedition. I looked at a few different maps to see where the track went and some maps had a track leaving from Valentine Fire Trail near where Straight and Back Flat Creek join up to Valentine Hut. Other maps had a track going from Valentine Hut to the top of the falls and a track going along the creek from Valentine Fire Trail but not joining. What I found was somewhat of a track leaving Valentine Fire Trail going along the creek but not sure if some of it was animal tracks. After eddy hoping my way across the Geehi River and the other creek I couldn't find any more signs of a track. There had also been a lot of rain so all the creeks and rivers were up a bit which made crossing them a bit more fun. Once I was closer to the falls they were bigger than what I orignally thought with 3 drops. From the Valentine Fire Trail you could only see the top one. After some thick bush bashing I reached Valentine Creek above the falls and could see the track on the other side and had to eddy hop my way across the creek to get to it.

I took this photo earlier this year after what is going to be my only day skiing this year due to Covid and lockdowns. This photo is of Bogong Creek near Dead Horse Gap in Kosciuszko National Park. We'd spent the day skiing up at Bob's Ridge along the Cascade Trail and I took this photo after we returned.

This is Gibraltar Creek next to Woods Reserve in Namadgi National Park, ACT. I stayed at Woods Reserve after coming down to Canberra for the selection weekend for my current job. I spent a while exploring and taking photos along the creek. It then snowed later in the afternoon and that night.

It's another older photo from the Victoria and Tasmania holiday I had with my family after finishing school. This was taken at sunrise from a beach while staying at Anglsea on the Great Ocean Road in Victoria. Luckily I timed it well capturing the flock of seagulls flying past. I've also recently heard part of this beach is now closed due to erosion along the cliffs and them collapsing. The other morning we were there we walked along the top of the cliff for sunrise.

The other photo from the day trip to Goombuura back when I lived in Toowoomba. This is Dalrymple Creek on the circuit walk. We also saw a few animals on this walk including a baby snake, carpet python and a goanna.

The photo is taken from Long Point in the Walpole-Nornalup National Park in WA. It's one of my favourite places on my work circuit in WA and think watching the waves crash here is better than at The Gap near Albany. I noticed while looking at the photo in the calendar there is a small faint rainbow on the left from the spray of the waves.

Another photo of Valentine Creek taken on the same day as the January and June photo. I spent a while taking photos around the creek after arriving at Valentine Hut. The cloud cover made the light softer so I was able to capture some long exposures along the creek. I also loved the snow gums and yellow everlasting daisies along the creek.
Hope you've enjoyed the photos from my 2021 Calendar and the stories behind them. Remember to let me know if you would like to purchase a calendar. Also what was your favourite photo and do you have a suggestion for a theme for 2023? Let me know in the comments below.
